Drawing from Life

Intensive drawing classes for those keen to learn.  The course is aimed toward those who are looking to establish a firm and intelligent foundation for a lifetime of creative practice.

Life Drawing and Painting Class

(Classes will not be held on 1st May or Half Term, 29th May)

A class based around poses of two or three weeks duration commencing with a warm up of quick work.  Individual tutoring available. All abilities invited to this conscientious and welcoming class.

Long Pose Class

25 April – 18 July  (half term 30 May)  10.00 am – 1.00 pm  £10 per class (not inc materials)

This is an untutored friendly life drawing class.  The life model holds the one pose for the whole session and heavily lit.  This is a drop in class and all abilities are welcome.

Life Drawing for all Levels

25th April – 18th July (Half Term 30 May) 2.00pm-4.30pm

£208 full course, £104 half term (inc materials, exc paper)

This class is suitable for all abilities and provides a friendly environment that supports and encourages absolute beginners, providing full tuition, creatively challenges those who want to improve their drawing and gives a framework for artists who want to further their creative practice.

Urban Landscapes

27th June  2.00- 5.00 pm  £12. (exc materials)

For one day only, exhibiting artist Sarah Wimperis will be offering this workshop based on her book ‘Quick Draw – Urban Landscapes’, a step by step introduction to the techniques you will need to improve your drawing skills.  Ideal for artists based in a city with as rich an urban landscape as Bath.

Children’s After School Art Club (Ages 7-11)

Each term pupils will have the opportunity to explore a different area of art and design.  Artistic topics include drawing, painting,textiles, clay,paper-crafts, illustration, architecture,animation print and more.  Pupils will learn new skills, investigate a number of artists and designers work and creative professions and document their creations in their own sketchbook.  Students will also get the chance to visit art exhibitions, enter art competitions and exhibit their own work in art showcases.

WEDNESDAYS

Life Sculpture 

26th April – 19th July (Half Term 31st May) 1.45pm – 4.45pm

£198 +£12 materials

The life model holds one pose for 3-4 weeks. Clay, direct cement fondu and wire are used to discover the human form in three dimensions.  We will also tackle the portrait head, the relief and casting. Beginners welcome.

This is an untutored sculpture class for experienced sculptors wanting to experiment using the human form as a starting point.

Home Made Adult Craft Course

26th April – 12th July (half term 31st May) 11.00 am -1.00pm

£154 for full term (inc materials)

A unique course covering a variety of craft techniques and projects each term – mosaics, soft furnishings, seasonal decorations, clay, weaving, paper-crafts,felting, print and more.  Projects have an emphasis on making one of a kind, practical items that can be used in your home.  A very relaxed and popular class. Most materials included, all abilities welcome.  We also run monthly Sunday afternoon classes covering a variety of mediums.

The Art of Portraiture

A ‘drop in’ series of classes for portraiture -covering drawing through to full painting. Come along and develop your skills in studies working from sitters and other source material.

Learn How To Find Your Own Story Idea & Craft It Into A Finished Cartoon

4th May-8th June 6.30pm-8.30pm £90 (only materials needed are pencil, pen and paper

6 practical classes that show you step by step, techniques you can use for originating and creating your own unique short comic.  Finding a joke or personal moment that you want to communicate – and then expressing it correctly can be a very rewarding and cathartic process.  You will be guided in your search for short story ideas and jokes. You’ll learn how to get past psychological barriers and craft a compelling cartoon through fun and effective exercises.

Eoin Ryan is an illustrator and cartoonist based in Bath, his work has been featured on cracked.com and more recently his cartoons have been adapted for the show Trip Tank on Comedy Central

WEEKEND CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS

Three Section Hardback Quarter Binding with Slipcase

Sunday 9th April and Sunday 7th May 10.30 am – 4.30 pm £45 (inc materials)

These bookbinding workshops are designed for participants with or without experience of the craft.  The participants will have the opportunity to make pocket sized hardback quarter and half bound book constructions with combinations of book cloth and paper covered boards. Both book structures will have inside cover pockets and a variety of expanding throw-out pages.

A whole day working from the model with half of the day taken up with one pose, enabling time to paint in a variety of media or to develop a drawing further. The morning focuses on exploratory exercises to improve the hand to eye connection.

Capture the beauty of flowers in oils.  Perfect for the complete beginner or the more experienced.  The workshop guides you through each stage of the alla prima painting process.

Printmaking by Hand

Explore the art of printmaking with a minimum of equipment.  You can make beautiful prints using just hand pressure with no need for a press.

Quick Start Art Self Portrait 2 Day Oil Painting Workshop

Discover the process of painting a self portrait in oils.  Experience in oil paints and drawing beneficial, but not essential.  The workshop guides you through each stage of a self-portrait painting.

Children’s Saturday Art Club

Throughout the year Funky Art House runs a wide selection of classes for children and young people through their Saturday Art Clubs.  Exploring different areas of art and design including drawing, painting, textiles, clay, paper-crafts, illustration, architecture, animation, print and more, classes are tailored to suit three different age groups : 7-11, 11-14, 14-17.

Art classes for older teens interested in extending their creative studies.  Students will cover a number of mediums- clay, textiles, print, painting etc to give the pupils a change to develop a range of creative skills.  Alongside this , the tutor will also cover skills which will enhance GCSE and A Level studies such as drawing and documentation skills.  The tutor will also give guidance on skills needed to the GCSE/A Level syllabus such as researching and taking inspiration from other artists’ (Please note you do not need to be taking GCSE or A Level art/photography to join this group but do need to be 14)
